THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES BY SUZANNE COLLINS

I’m sure everyone remembers Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire. Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the prequel to the Hunger Games Trilogy. It follows Coriolanus as he is a district twelve mentor in the 10th annual hunger games.

LANGUAGE

a** (other forms), piss

SEXUAL SITUATIONS

Brief mentioning that some women had to go into an unwanted business to make money during the war. Lucy and Snow kiss multiple times. Lucy’s old boyfriend wants cheated on Lucy. A man who owns the local pub’s husband is dead. Mentions one of the Covey is dating a girl.

VIOLENCE

The Hunger Games forces children to kill until one remains in brutal ways. Snow’s classmate is bitten by snakes and begins to grow scales. Snow kills three people and exposes his friend’s escape plan. Snow thinks Lucy betrayed him so he tries to shoot her. One of Snow’s classmates is said to be a cannibal.

RELIGION

A song is sung about a ghost.

MORALS

Only a few people seem to have morals in this book, one of which is Sejamus Plinth. It talks about keeping those you love close.

ATTENTIVENESS

A bit slow at the beginning, but gets more intriguing further in the book.

MY THOUGHTS

This book was so funny. Maybe I’m the only one who thinks that, but some of Snow’s thoughts make you laugh. The rest is confusion. I did not understand the ending and was left confused and with so many questions. Mrs. Collins could you write another book please?

Rating: 4 out of 5.
